Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has issued a stark warning that he might leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu fails to address Nigeria's pressing challenges.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, Ndume, who has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of the current administration, made his position clear regarding his future with the ruling party.
"If I decide to leave the APC, I will not hide it," Ndume stated. "I still believe President Tinubu can fix things. Failure to fix those things may cause me to leave the APC."
Concerns Over Party Stability
The lawmaker also expressed concerns about the recent wave of defections to the APC, suggesting that this trend could potentially destabilize the party rather than strengthen it.
"If Tinubu continues this way, it doesn't matter if he loads more people or governors, you are just endangering APC," Ndume warned. "When you overload a ship, it might lead to the capsizing of the party."
Ndume's comments come amid a period of significant political realignment in Nigeria, highlighted by the recent defection of 24 Akwa Ibom lawmakers from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The senator has been at the forefront of calls for improved governance within the Tinubu administration, consistently demanding that the government address the numerous challenges facing Nigerians.
Political Implications
Political analysts view Ndume's statements as potentially significant, given his position as a prominent northern politician and his history of speaking out on national issues. His potential departure could signal growing discontent within the party's ranks.
The Borno senator has also recently made headlines for his comments regarding former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting internal conflicts within the party leadership.
As political tensions continue to simmer, many Nigerians are watching closely to see if President Tinubu will address these internal party challenges while simultaneously tackling the country's economic and security issues.
