Favour Nuhu, a 13-year-old girl whose right eye was disfigured by her guardian, Mrs. Joyce Onyinye Obioma, is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery to restore her vision, according to officials from Stand For Humanity Foundation.

Chidiebube Okeoma, lead advocate of the group that rescued the minor, disclosed in a press statement that medical investigations revealed only a surgical procedure could restore the child's sight in her affected right eye.

Extent of Damage and Medical Assessment

Medical examinations conducted at Camela Eye Clinic in Owerri revealed significant damage to the child's eye. Optometrists determined that the pressure on the affected eye has reached 31 percent, exceeding the normal threshold of 25 percent. A large boil has formed on the damaged eye, resulting in cataract development.

"The extent of the damage was huge," Okeoma stated. "They said that the little girl's ordeal was beyond them and informed that only surgery could correct the damage to the eye."

The surgery is scheduled for next week, with the Imo State Government's Health Insurance Agency committing to cover all medical expenses.

Rescue and Legal Action

The minor was rescued following alerts from concerned neighbors in the area. After her rescue, she was taken to the State University Medical Centre in Owerri and enrolled in the free Health Insurance Agency scheme provided by the state government.

The foundation has reported the incident to the State Police Command in Owerri, which promptly assigned officers to assist in rescuing the girl from Ohii in Owerri.

Okeoma emphasized that the organization is committed to ensuring justice for the child. "While we work to ensure that this eye defect is corrected, we will ensure that this woman is prosecuted for her wickedness. Our organization has already put our legal department on notice pending the outcome of the investigation by the police," he stated.

"We strongly condemn child battering and dehumanization. Take a child back to his or her parents if your temperament can't withstand his or her excesses," Okeoma added.

The foundation expressed gratitude to the Imo State Government, particularly the Executive Secretary of the State Health Insurance Agency, for undertaking to cover the complete bill for the girl's medical procedure.
