Former U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran's recent missile attack on an American military base in Qatar as a "very weak response" to what he characterized as the "obliteration" of Iran's nuclear facilities.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed that of the 14 missiles launched by Iran, 13 were successfully intercepted. According to Trump, one missile was deliberately allowed to land because it was "headed in a non-threatening direction."
"No Americans were harmed in the attack and hardly any damage was done," Trump wrote. "They've gotten it all out of their 'system,' and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE."
Call for Regional Peace
The former president went on to thank Iran for what he described as "early notice" of the attack, which he said allowed for preparations that ensured no casualties or injuries occurred. Trump then urged both regional powers to move toward peaceful relations.
"Perhaps Iran can now proceed to peace and harmony in the region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same," he stated.
In a follow-up post, Trump expressed gratitude to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his efforts toward regional peace, noting that no Qatari citizens were harmed during the Iranian strike.
Trump concluded his message with an emphatic declaration: "CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT'S TIME FOR PEACE!"
Regional Context
This development comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following reported strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. The missile attack on the U.S. base in Qatar appears to be Iran's response to these actions, though the situation remains fluid.
The exchange raises concerns about further destabilization in a region already facing multiple conflicts, including ongoing tensions between Israel and various regional actors.
