President Bola Tinubu has identified remnants of Boko Haram insurgents as responsible for the recent suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, describing the attack as a diversionary tactic by weakened terrorist elements.

In a statement released on Sunday by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condemned the attack as "cowardly" and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to completely eliminate insurgent groups from the country.

"The President mourns those who lost their lives in the attack and extends his condolences to the government and people of Borno State," the statement read. Tinubu has also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate support to survivors of the bombing.

Multiple Incidents Addressed

The President's statement also addressed a separate explosion that occurred in Kano on Saturday morning at a scrap metal factory. The incident reportedly affected 15 people, with five fatalities confirmed. Tinubu expressed sympathy to the families of those killed or injured and emphasized the importance of workplace safety measures.

The Konduga attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in Nigeria's northeast region, where Boko Haram and its splinter groups have waged an insurgency for over a decade. Despite government claims of significant progress against the insurgents, attacks on civilian targets continue to occur sporadically.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has also condemned the Konduga terrorist attack, reaffirming the state government's commitment to working with federal authorities to enhance security in the region.

Security analysts note that while major territorial control by insurgent groups has diminished, their shift to targeting civilian populations represents an evolving threat that requires continued vigilance and strategic response from Nigerian security forces.
