Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned a suicide attack carried out by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Konduga Local Government Area that claimed 12 lives and left 18 others injured.
The attack, which occurred yesterday around 10 pm, targeted a night fish market in the area, according to a statement released by the governor's Media Aide, Dauda Iliya.
"The barbaric acts committed by these terrorists are not only heinous but an assault on our shared humanity," Zulum said in the statement.
Governor Calls for Vigilance
The governor described the attack as "a cowardly and barbaric attempt to instil fear in the people and undermine our collective resilience," emphasizing that "the people of Borno are resilient, and we refuse to be cowed by terrorists."
Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation is vital in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the region.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, noting that all well-meaning citizens of Borno share in their pain during this difficult time.
Government Response
The governor reassured residents that his administration is working closely with security agencies to enhance safety measures and prevent future attacks in the state.
This latest attack comes as Borno continues to grapple with security challenges despite ongoing military operations against terrorist groups in the Northeast region.
The night fish market in Konduga, a local commercial hub, has previously been targeted by insurgents seeking to disrupt economic activities and civilian life in the area.
