A 27-year-old woman abducted during a recent terrorist attack in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State has regained her freedom, security sources confirmed on Thursday.

Aisha Mohammed, a resident of the 500 Housing Units in Damboa, was released by her captors on Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m., according to family members who spoke to reporters.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama first broke the news of her release via social media platform X on Thursday, highlighting a rare positive development in the ongoing security challenges facing the region.

Mohammed's release follows what military sources described as "sustained efforts" by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and increased pressure on the terrorist group by security forces operating in the area.

Upon her release, the victim was immediately transported to the General Hospital in Damboa for medical evaluation. Hospital authorities have confirmed she is in stable condition despite her ordeal.

The terrorist attack, which occurred on July 22, resulted in the abduction of several residents from the area. Military and security agencies continue operations to secure the release of remaining captives.

A military source who requested anonymity told BenriNews that the operation to free the remaining hostages is ongoing. "Our forces are working tirelessly to ensure all abducted civilians are returned safely to their families," the source stated.

The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Borno State, where terrorist groups continue to target civilian populations despite increased military presence and operations.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies as efforts continue to improve safety in the region.
