Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, professionally known as 'Yemi My Lover', has alleged that popular Nigerian rapper Olamide ignored his calls for six months after using his name in a song.
In a recent video interview circulating on social media, Ayebo revealed that despite gaining popularity from musicians and content creators using his stage name, he has never received any form of compensation from them.
Failed Attempts at Communication
According to Yemi, he reached out to Olamide through Fuji legend Pasuma but was unsuccessful in establishing meaningful contact with the rapper.
"Olamide was the first to use my name in his song, and I was so happy. My name is blessed by God, that's why both Davido, Olamide and others including skit makers are using it," Yemi stated in the interview.
He further explained: "Pasuma said 'Yemo, did Olamide settle you for singing with your name?' And I told him no, I have never even seen him before, not to talk of him settling me. We don't have each other's contact. And immediately Pasuma picked up his phone and called him that I came to report him."
Brief Connection, Then Silence
The actor recounted that Olamide initially spoke with him during that call with Pasuma and instructed him to collect his contact number. However, subsequent attempts to reach the rapper proved futile.
"Olamide told Pasuma to give me the phone so he could speak with me. That was the first time we spoke and he told me to collect his number from Pasuma and call him. Pasuma gave me his number and I called Olamide for more than six months, he didn't pick my calls, I messaged him and he didn't reply," Yemi lamented.
Despite the lack of financial compensation, Yemi acknowledged that the mentions in songs and content have significantly boosted his popularity in the entertainment industry.
