An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ayekooto Akindele, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has become "a problem" for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai's family, who are allegedly "groaning and gnashing their teeth" over the president.
Akindele's comments come in response to controversial statements made by Bashir El-Rufai, son of the former governor, who publicly declared he "can't wait" to ensure Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election and "relocates back to Bourdillion."
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bashir El-Rufai boldly stated: "Can't wait for this man to relocate back to Bourdillion. The North is ready," suggesting northern opposition to Tinubu's potential re-election bid.
Growing Political Tensions
The exchange highlights escalating tensions within Nigeria's political landscape as the 2027 presidential election approaches. According to reports, Nasir El-Rufai is currently aligned with an opposition coalition determined to remove Tinubu from power in the next general election.
This development comes despite assurances from House of Representatives Speaker Abbas that Kaduna State would deliver the highest northern votes for the APC in future elections.
The public disagreement between the El-Rufai family and President Tinubu represents a significant fracture within the ruling party, potentially reshaping political alliances ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
Political analysts suggest this conflict could signal broader dissatisfaction among northern political elites with the current administration, though the full implications remain to be seen as political maneuvering continues.
