The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to its patrol officers nationwide to avoid bribery and all forms of unethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
Assistant Corps Marshal Yakubu Mohammad, who recently assumed office as the Zonal Commanding Officer for FRSC Zone RS12HQ, delivered this caution on Friday in Bauchi. The zone under his command covers Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno states.
Mohammad emphasized that the Corps has implemented rigorous measures to identify and discipline personnel who compromise their duties. He warned that both those who offer and accept bribes will face prosecution according to FRSC's established laws.
Rainy Season Safety Measures
With the approaching rainy season, the Zonal Commander appealed to road users across the three northeastern states to cooperate with FRSC personnel. He stressed the importance of safety and strict adherence to traffic regulations during this period.
"I urge motorists in Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno to drive responsibly — avoid overloading, speeding, and the use of unfit vehicles," Mohammad stated.
New Leadership Approach
Mohammad encouraged officers under his command to remain dedicated to their duties, noting that under Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed's leadership, the FRSC is adopting a management approach that combines consultation with a reward-and-sanction system.
He reaffirmed the Corps' commitment to public education, prompt emergency response, and enforcement of traffic laws in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to ensure safer roads.
"The FRSC remains ready to respond promptly to emergencies and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to ensure safer roads," he added.
