The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has issued a stern warning to Fulani settlers in the state against taking laws into their own hands, urging them instead to channel their grievances through proper legal channels.

During a meeting with a delegation of Fulani settlers led by Wakilin Fulani Minna, Alhaji Hassan Usman Shiroro, at the State Police Headquarters in Dutsen-Kura Minna, CP Elleman emphasized the importance of following established legal procedures.

"The primary purpose of establishing the Police and the courts is to ensure that aggrieved parties get justice. As such, no one is expected to take laws into their hands," the Commissioner stated.

Police Pledge Swift Investigation

CP Elleman assured the delegation that their complaints would be addressed promptly. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to immediately commence investigations into the issues raised and ensure appropriate arrests and prosecutions.

The Deputy CP Operations, DCP Falade Michael, suggested that the group establish a liaison or vigilante team to assist the Police in investigation activities, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.

Advice on Cattle Grazing Practices

In his contribution, the Deputy CP Investigations, DCP Ibrahim Adamu, advised against allowing teenagers to handle cattle grazing, noting that they often lack the capacity to control the animals.

"Teenagers among your children should not be allowed to take cattle for grazing. Because, most times they lack the capacity to control the animals, thereby resulting in damage of property and farmland," Adamu advised.

He also emphasized the need for non-interference by leaders or parents in cases involving any of their members, stressing that individuals should face the consequences of their actions.

Fulani Leaders Commend Police Efforts

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Hassan Usman Shiroro, commended the efforts of the Command in ensuring relative peace in Minna and the state as a whole. However, he lamented the challenges facing his members in their various settlements within the state and requested urgent police intervention on the issues raised.

The meeting represents a significant step in addressing tensions and promoting peaceful coexistence between Fulani settlers and other communities in Niger State.
