Residents of Sheka, Mai Dile, and Ja'oji communities in Kano have formally petitioned Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II over alarming increases in street violence and drug abuse, which they attribute to regular gatherings at the Kano zoological garden.

The concerned citizens submitted their complaint directly to the Emir at his palace in Kofar Kudu, expressing deep worry that most perpetrators are young people under the age of 22.

"It's heartbreaking that our youth have now become a source of fear in their own neighborhoods," said a community member who requested anonymity due to security concerns.

Emir Calls for Collaborative Action

After receiving the petition, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II urged local government chairmen and traditional leaders to work closely with security agencies to address the growing crisis of youth violence and thuggery in the affected areas.

The situation has reportedly worsened in recent weeks, with youth clashes leading to burglaries and phone snatching incidents that have resulted in loss of lives.

Community leaders are particularly concerned about the zoological garden becoming a gathering point for activities that contribute to antisocial behavior among young people in the surrounding neighborhoods.

This development comes amid growing concerns about youth restiveness in various parts of Kano State, with authorities struggling to contain the situation through conventional security measures.
