The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 23 suspects and seized various illicit drugs during a major crackdown operation across several areas in Kano State.

According to a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Maigatari, the operation targeted known drug hotspots including Badawa, Kofar Mata, Tashar Kasuwar Rimi, Gwangwazo, and Kantin Kwari areas.

The seized substances included codeine, pregabalin, and cannabis sativa, which have been identified as commonly abused drugs in these neighborhoods.

Strategic Targeting of Drug Hotspots

The NDLEA statement revealed that the targeted areas had been mapped out after being identified as hotspots for drug abuse. The agency expressed determination to restore peace and order in these communities.

"The NDLEA is pledging an intensified effort to dismantle drug joints and combat the rampant drug abuse that has plagued these neighborhoods," the statement read.

The operation underscores the agency's commitment to safeguarding public health and safety by addressing the growing menace of drug-related activities in Kano State.

Community Cooperation Sought

The NDLEA has urged the public to support their efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or abuse.

This operation is part of the agency's broader strategy to ensure that "our streets are safe, and our youth are protected from substance abuse dangers," according to the statement.

The NDLEA's crackdown comes at a time when concerns about drug abuse among youth in northern Nigeria have been rising, with authorities stepping up efforts to combat the trend.
