The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent killings in Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the attacks as "a grievous affront to human dignity."
In a statement released on Monday, NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, expressed the forum's solidarity with the bereaved families and the Benue State government during this period of mourning.
"The Nigeria Governors' Forum stands in unwavering solidarity with the bereaved families and the state government at this time of profound sorrow," the statement read.
The forum offered prayers for "the peaceful repose of the departed souls, divine comfort for grieving families, speedy recovery for the injured and the resilience of survivors."
Commitment to Peace and Security
The NGF pledged its full cooperation and readiness to assist Benue State and relevant authorities in restoring peace and security to the affected areas. The governors called on all Nigerians, regardless of their beliefs or affiliations, to denounce such acts of violence and work together toward building a nation founded on peace, justice, and mutual respect.
"We urge every Nigerian, irrespective of creed or affiliation, to denounce such brutality and collaborate towards forging a nation rooted in peace, justice and mutual respect," the statement emphasized.
The forum extended its profound condolences to the state governor, the government, and the people of Benue regarding the devastating attacks on the two communities.
This statement comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Benue State, which has witnessed recurring violent attacks in recent years.
