Super Eagles forward, Moses Simon, has called on Nigerians to unite against violence following the deadly attack in Benue State that claimed over 200 lives last Friday.

The attack, which occurred in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area, primarily targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had sought refuge at a local Catholic mission.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, Simon expressed his sympathy for those affected by the tragedy. "My heart goes out to the victims and families affected by the tragic Benue killings. We must stand together against violence and demand justice," the Nantes star wrote.

The massacre has sparked widespread protests across Benue State, with residents taking to the streets over the weekend to express their outrage. Social media platforms have been flooded with awareness campaigns highlighting the violence in Nigeria's Middle Belt region.

Pope Leo also offered prayers for the victims on Sunday, describing the incident as a "terrible massacre."

BenriNews previously reported that armed men carried out the brutal overnight attack, which has become one of the deadliest incidents in the region in recent times.

Simon, who currently plays for French club Nantes, is known for using his platform to speak on social issues affecting Nigeria.
