Troops under the 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected bandit dressed in military combat camouflage in Kaduna State, recovering weapons and ammunition during the operation.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the suspect was apprehended on June 15 in Katsit community, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The individual was reportedly impersonating a soldier to rob unsuspecting civilians.

Items recovered from the suspect included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, seven spent 7.62mm shells, a fake vigilante ID card, a mobile phone, and two ATM cards.

Additional Operation in Plateau State

In a separate operation conducted in the early hours of June 16, troops raided a suspected criminal hideout in Kwanar Lauje, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Although the suspects escaped before the military's arrival, troops recovered significant weaponry including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a rifle butt, 300 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a 9mm round, two 12.7mm rounds, and an abandoned motorcycle.

Military authorities confirmed that all recovered weapons and materials have been secured, and follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend the escaped criminals. The arrested suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

These operations highlight the military's continued efforts to combat banditry and criminal activities in the northern region, where armed groups have been responsible for kidnappings, robberies, and attacks on communities.
