The Benue State Police Command has arrested Torngusha Usuwe for allegedly killing his mother during a domestic altercation in Gungul Village, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. when a heated argument between Usuwe and his mother escalated to violence.
Details of the Incident
Counter-insurgency expert Makama Zagazola, who shared information about the incident on X (formerly Twitter), reported that Usuwe allegedly struck his mother on the left jaw with a stick during the argument. The blow caused a severe fracture, resulting in heavy bleeding from her mouth and ear.
The victim was rushed to Zege Nyion Clinic in Gungul for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead around 8:00 p.m. the same day, approximately five and a half hours after the assault.
Following a report by Terwase Usuwe, a relative of the deceased, police detectives were dispatched to the scene. The body was photographed, removed from the location, and deposited at the Gungul Memory Integrated Morgue for autopsy.
Police Investigation
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue. Efforts by BenriNews to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about domestic violence in Nigerian communities and highlights the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms within families.
