Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has suggested that a single phone call from United States President Donald Trump could potentially end the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, claiming it would take just one call to "muzzle" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The statement comes in response to Trump's recent remarks urging Iran to engage in diplomatic talks with Israel to de-escalate the growing tensions in the Middle East. The US President had also warned about the potentially devastating consequences if the conflict continues to escalate.
"If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential. Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue," Araghchi wrote in a post on X.
"It takes one phone call from Washington to muzzle someone like Netanyahu. That may pave the way for a return to diplomacy," he added.
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that Iran did not initiate the conflict and has no desire to prolong the bloodshed, suggesting that the ball is now in the US court to take decisive action.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has maintained a hardline stance, insisting that military operations will continue until Iran's nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities are completely destroyed.
The exchange highlights the complex dynamics at play in the Middle East conflict, with Iran positioning Trump as potentially having significant influence over Israel's actions, while Netanyahu remains committed to military objectives despite international calls for de-escalation.
This development comes amid heightened tensions following a series of military exchanges between Iran and Israel that have raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
