Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has categorically denied rumours suggesting he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such reports as "unfounded and misleading."

During a recent media interaction, Governor Mutfwang clarified his position, stating: "I haven't had that conversation [of leaving PDP for APC] with anyone. The media has speculated a lot, but nothing has happened."

Loyalty to PDP Amid Defection Wave

The governor's statement comes at a time when several PDP governors from states like Delta and Akwa Ibom have crossed over to the APC. However, Mutfwang emphasized Plateau's historical allegiance to the PDP.

"Plateau has always stood with the PDP. The APC has never really existed on the Plateau. I say that with every sense of responsibility," he asserted, attributing the defection rumours to certain groups with personal agendas.

The governor also reflected on past electoral contests in Plateau State, alleging that the APC gained power through electoral manipulation. "In 2015, we paused collation at 8 p.m. and planned to continue the next morning. But by 2 a.m., results had already been announced. That tells you everything," Mutfwang claimed.

PDP Internal Challenges

While acknowledging internal challenges within the PDP, particularly regarding the loss of legislative seats through court rulings, Mutfwang expressed optimism about the party's future. As a member of the PDP's national reconciliation team, he stated that progress has been made toward resolving internal conflicts.

"I am a bona fide member of the PDP. I remain so. And I'm very optimistic that very soon, the PDP crisis will be a thing of the past," the governor affirmed.

Regarding his political future, Mutfwang maintained that it would be determined by divine guidance and the will of Plateau citizens. "My political future will be decided by God and the people of Plateau State. Wherever Plateau people go, that's where we go," he concluded.
