Aliyu Audu, a former Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, has publicly announced his resignation from the administration with the explicit intention of working against the President's re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Monday, Audu revealed that his decision was motivated by matters of principle and personal conscience.
"I couldn't in all honesty and in my conscience be in his government knowing I'm plotting against removal in 2027, because I will, and by God, we will remove him," Audu declared during the interview.
Democracy Day Speech Triggered Decision
Audu pointed to President Tinubu's Democracy Day speech as a catalyst for his resignation, particularly taking issue with the President's remarks about enjoying seeing the opposition in disarray.
"It confirmed it on one hand, and on the other hand, it strengthened my resolve to not work for him in 2027," the former adviser stated.
He further emphasized his commitment to a collective effort to install new leadership, saying, "Collectively, Nigerians will install a leader that will be our chosen, not his chosen. Not emilokan (my turn), but awa lokan (our turn), in fact, gbogbo wa lokan (all of us)."
Criticism of APC and Wike's Inclusion
The former presidential aide also leveled accusations against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming the party is attempting to transform Nigeria into a one-party state.
Audu specifically criticized the inclusion of Nyesom Wike, a People's Democratic Party (PDP) member and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in the APC-led government.
"What is Wike doing in our government? If he's going to leave the PDP, he should leave. If we're doing a government of national unity, you deal with the party, not individuals. The party is what we vote for — not Bola Tinubu but APC; not Atiku but PDP; not Peter Obi but Labour Party," he argued.
This resignation marks a significant defection from within President Tinubu's inner circle and potentially signals growing dissent within the administration as it approaches the midpoint of its first term.
