Popular Nigerian singer and activist, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu over his handling of the recent massacre in Benue State that reportedly claimed over 200 lives.
The "This is Nigeria" crooner took to social media to express his frustration following the President's statement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the killings, stating that Tinubu has "consistently shown that he is incapable of performing the primary duty of securing lives and property" of Nigerian citizens.
"This routine statement does not cut it," Falz declared, suggesting that the President's words were insufficient in addressing the escalating insecurity in the country.
Lack of Attention to Benue Crisis
In a separate post, the activist lamented the insufficient attention being given to the tragedy, questioning why such a devastating incident wasn't receiving adequate coverage.
"Over 200 senselessly slain and burnt alive in Benue and this is not even getting close to enough attention. Why are we so wicked to ourselves?" Falz wrote.
The massacre has sparked outrage across the country, with former Senate President David Mark warning that Nigerians may be forced to take up arms for self-defense if the government fails to protect them.
Growing Criticism of Government Response
President Tinubu has faced mounting criticism for describing the Benue killings as a "reprisal attack," a characterization that many Nigerians, including former House of Representatives member Gbillah, have found troubling.
The tragedy has also led to personal losses, with a former aide to ex-Governor Samuel Ortom reportedly losing 23 family members in the attack. The aide has questioned current Governor Alia's claims regarding the death toll.
Various groups have called for immediate government action to protect lives and livelihoods in Benue State, as citizens continue to grapple with the aftermath of one of the deadliest attacks in recent times.
The incident adds to the growing list of security challenges facing the Tinubu administration, with many Nigerians, including actor Yul Edochie, urging the President to tackle insecurity and the high cost of living with greater urgency.
