President Bola Tinubu has publicly criticized security agencies for their failure to apprehend suspects connected to the deadly attack on Yelewata community in Benue State that claimed more than 200 lives.

During a town hall meeting with stakeholders at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Wednesday, the President directly questioned the Inspector-General of Police about the lack of arrests days after the massacre.

"Police, I hope your men are on alert to listen to information. How come no arrest has been made? I expect there should be arrests of those criminals," Tinubu stated firmly.

The President assured attendees, "I give you the assurance that we will find peace and convert this tragedy to prosperity."

Call for Intensified Security Efforts

Tinubu urged the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other security heads to redouble their efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

"Christopher, I watched your comment, and I know you can't be tired staying in the bush with Oluyede (Chief of Army Staff). But we need to keep our ears to the ground and help get those criminals," he emphasized.

The President's visit to Benue State came as a condolence following last Friday's devastating attack on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area.

During the same visit, Tinubu reportedly told Benue residents, "They hate me like hell but I'm their President," highlighting the complex political dynamics surrounding his administration's response to the security challenges in the region.

The President also reassured the people that his presence was not merely ceremonial, stating, "I'm here not just to show my face."

This presidential intervention comes amid growing concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Benue State, with the Tor Tiv (traditional ruler) reportedly warning that the region faces "far more sinister motives than farmer-herder clashes."
