Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has described the ongoing killings in Benue State as a "national emergency" while expressing deep sorrow over the persistent violence in the region.
Idibia, who serves as Technical Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Entertainment and Community Outreach, lamented that the attacks continue to recur without any lasting solution from authorities.
In an emotional video broadcast, the legendary musician called on all Benue stakeholders to rise above politics and personal interests to work together toward ending the crisis.
"My heart is heavy. I am terribly sad and angry. What is happening in Benue State has become a national emergency. I can't wrap my head around it anymore. I don't even know what to say at this point. This has to stop," he stated.
The musician further expressed his frustration, saying, "My sadness, my anger, my frustration, it's overwhelming that this keeps happening over and over again. This is no longer something we can just condemn in words. Serious action needs to be taken."
Idibia emphasized the need for collective action: "Every stakeholder in Benue must join hands. We can end this. I believe there is a solution."
The Benue crisis has recently intensified, with reports of a massacre in Yelewata area where local police reportedly exchanged gunfire with attackers for over six hours. The situation has drawn widespread condemnation, including from religious leaders and political figures who have described it as a "terrible massacre" and "national tragedy."
President Bola Tinubu has reportedly ordered increased security action in Benue and tasked Governor Hyacinth Alia with leading reconciliation efforts in the troubled state.
