Prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has called for discussions on President Bola Tinubu's impeachment following his silence on the incessant killings in Benue State.

Yesufu, who gained prominence through the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, expressed outrage over the President's apparent indifference to the recurring violence in Benue communities while promptly offering condolences to India over a recent plane crash.

"Tinubu is sitting down there gloating over the deaths of Nigerians whose mandate he truncated to occupy the office of the C-in-C and instead of Tinubu's impeachment to be the topic of discussion, who is supposed to OWN a political party is the main topic!" she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

She further emphasized, "Tinubu condoled with India and not with Benue."

Latest Attack in Benue

The latest tragedy in Benue occurred on Friday night when suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Yelewata community around 10:00 pm. The assault left several people dead and many others injured.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that suspected bandits invaded the community in the early hours of Saturday. According to the police, tactical teams were swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

Despite the escalating violence in Benue State, President Tinubu has yet to visit the state or publicly express sympathy for the victims. This silence is particularly notable given that Benue is currently under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the President's own party.

The recurring attacks in Benue have led to increasing calls for more decisive federal intervention to address the security challenges facing the state and protect vulnerable communities.
