Suspected Fulani herdsmen launched an attack on Mbaivur community, located near the Air Force Base in Makurdi, Benue State capital, in the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025.
According to reports gathered by BenriNews, the assailants invaded Tse Hyiongo, a settlement within the Mbaivur area, beginning their attack on Saturday and continuing into early Sunday morning. The prolonged assault created widespread panic among residents.
Eyewitnesses revealed that frightened residents were forced to abandon their homes as gunshots echoed throughout the village. The attack reportedly lasted for hours without any visible intervention from security forces stationed in the area.
As of the time of this report, the number of casualties remains unclear, with authorities yet to release official figures.
Connection to Recent Violence
This attack comes barely 24 hours after a similar invasion in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in what is being described as one of the deadliest massacres in recent times.
Efforts to obtain official statements from the Benue State Police Command and the Nigerian Air Force authorities in Makurdi have been unsuccessful as of Sunday morning.
The recent spate of attacks has raised serious concerns about the security situation in Benue State, particularly in communities near security installations.
