Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has dismissed claims that his ex-wife Ireti Doyle is more popular than him, asserting that her decision to retain his surname after their divorce stems from his greater popularity in the industry.
In a recent interview with The Muvmnt Studio, Doyle emphasized his long-standing career in the entertainment industry, stating that he achieved stardom at just 16 years old, long before his ex-wife rose to fame.
"I have been popular since I was 16. How long has she been around? I have been around for 45 years and I'm still around. I was a superstar at the age of 16; a champion debater. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo," Doyle stated.
Defending His Legacy
When the interviewer suggested that his ex-wife might be more popular than him, Doyle firmly rejected the notion, highlighting his established credentials in the industry.
"I can never be defined by her. My body of work is too solid to be defined by any human being living or dead," he asserted, before questioning, "Why is the name Doyle popular? Why didn't she revert and change name at the end of the marriage?"
Patrick Doyle married Iretiola Doyle after losing his first wife to sickle cell anemia in 1999. The couple officially confirmed their divorce in 2023 after years of speculation about their separation.
The actor's comments have sparked discussions among fans and industry observers about celebrity identities post-divorce and the value of established names in the entertainment industry.
