Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele has weighed in on football's eternal debate, choosing Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time (GOAT).
In a recent interview with France Football, Dembele was asked to pick between the two Ballon d'Or winners who have dominated world football for over a decade.
"I grew up watching Barcelona, so naturally for me, Lionel Messi is the greatest," Dembele stated. "He is a player who inspires me, he is unique and I am very happy to have played with him."
The French international had the privilege of sharing the pitch with Messi during their time together at Barcelona, an experience that appears to have cemented his opinion in the ongoing debate.
While Dembele has never been teammates with Ronaldo, he has faced the Portuguese star three times throughout his career.
Messi and Ronaldo's Current Situations
Messi is currently playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer after leaving PSG, while Ronaldo continues his career in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr.
Both players have been in the news recently, with Messi's Inter Miami failing to beat Al Ahly in their opening Club World Cup 2025 game, while Ronaldo's absence from the tournament has drawn comments from former teammate Sergio Aguero.
Dembele himself has been making headlines, recently discussing his own chances of winning the Ballon d'Or in 2025, describing it as "difficult" during the same interview.
The GOAT debate continues to divide football fans worldwide, with supporters of both players passionately defending their favorite's legacy and achievements in the sport.
