President Bola Tinubu has firmly rejected allegations that he is attempting to establish a one-party state in Nigeria, instead urging opposition parties to resolve their internal challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that he has neither the mandate nor the intention to interfere in opposition party affairs.

"I can't be the one to fix the problems in the opposition," Tinubu stated. "They must put their house in order ahead of 2027."

Commitment to Democratic Principles

The President reaffirmed his Democracy Day commitment to maintaining a multi-party democratic system in Nigeria. He stressed that his administration has no interest in stifling political pluralism, countering recent criticisms from opposition figures.

The statement comes amid growing concerns about the state of opposition politics in Nigeria, with some parties experiencing internal fractures and leadership disputes that have weakened their effectiveness as a counterbalance to the ruling party.

Political analysts note that a robust opposition is essential for Nigeria's democratic development, providing necessary checks and balances on government power and offering voters alternative policy choices.

Infrastructure Development

The President's comments came during the inauguration of the Apo-Wasa Road project, which stretches from Ring Road 1 Junction to Wasa Junction. The infrastructure project represents part of the administration's ongoing efforts to improve transportation networks in the Federal Capital Territory.

The road commissioning highlights the government's focus on infrastructure development alongside political governance, with Tinubu emphasizing the importance of both physical and democratic infrastructure for national progress.

As the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 elections, observers will be watching closely to see how opposition parties respond to the President's challenge to strengthen their internal structures and present a united front.
