Nigeria's premier university, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced plans to honour Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, current chairman of the Nigerian Port Authority and former lawmaker representing Ekiti Senatorial District, with a prestigious Lifetime Leadership Achievement award.
According to a letter dated May 6, 2025, jointly signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Prof. Francis Fagbohun, and the Faculty Week Planning Committee chairperson, Dr. Mary Salawu, the award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the university complex.
Recognition for Outstanding Public Service
The university administration explained that Senator Adeyeye was carefully selected for this honour based on his exceptional performance across multiple domains including public service, politics, education policy, institutional governance, youth development, and national unity.
"The Faculty of Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University, is pleased to inform you that you have been carefully selected as the distinguished recipient of the Award of Lifetime Leadership Achievement," the letter stated.
"This award is in recognition of your impactful contribution and commitment to excellence in public service. As an academic leader in politics, education policy, and institutional governance, your advocacy for national unity, democracy, youth development, and mentorship roles has not gone unnoticed. We therefore deem it fit to celebrate and honour you publicly."
Guest Speaker Role
Beyond receiving the award, Senator Adeyeye has also been invited to serve as a Guest Speaker at the university's second Faculty Week, which carries the theme "Empowering the Next Generation through Structured Mentorship and Professional Engagement."
The senator is expected to deliver a lecture titled "Mentorship: A Tool for Fostering Progressive Democracy" during the event.
"This event will mark a significant milestone in our journey, bringing together generations of accomplished professionals who have emerged from our esteemed faculty to mentor the upcoming graduates," the university noted in its communication.
