Adamawa State has been plunged into mourning following the death of Professor Muazu Hammandikko Gaya, a renowned cyber security expert and distinguished lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola.
Professor Gaya, widely regarded as one of Nigeria's brightest academic minds in cyber security, computer programming, and operational research, passed away at his private residence near the MAU main campus in Girei, approximately 22 kilometers north of Yola, the state capital.
A Distinguished Academic Career
The late professor hailed from the Gaya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. His passing was confirmed by several associates and family members, including Usman Aliyu, an associate, and Abdulmajid Gaya, his nephew.
"With deep heart and sorrow I lost my prominent uncle in person of Professor Hammandikko Muazu Gaya. Ya Allah accept his short comings and grant him Aljannah firdausi Amen ya rabbi," Abdulmajid Gaya said in a heartfelt tribute.
At the time of his death, Professor Gaya was serving in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at Modibbo Adama University, where he had spent decades mentoring young scholars in complex areas of modern science.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues, students, and admirers, highlighting the significant impact Professor Gaya had on academia and the field of cyber security in Nigeria.
Yusuf Alkali, a family friend, remarked: "Professor Hamandikko Gaya Mu'azu of the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, Modibbo Adama University Yola, is no more. A great scholar has left us, and the world of knowledge has lost a giant. May we all find solace in the memories of his contributions and legacy."
Another admirer, El Mu'azz Maiha, described the late professor as "one of our finest minds: a distinguished scholar, mentor, and pillar in the field of mathematical modeling." He added that Professor Gaya's passing represents "a profound loss to the academic world and to all who had the honor of learning from him, working alongside him, or simply knowing him."
"Professor Hammandikko was a man of intellect, integrity, and immense humility. He devoted his life to the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge, always pushing boundaries in research while nurturing the next generation with patience and purpose," Maiha further stated.
