Transport union leaders in Abia State have issued a stern warning to politicians considering challenging Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 gubernatorial election, describing such ambitions as "a very big risk."
The warning came during a "Two-Million Man March" organized by various transport unions in the state on Thursday to show solidarity with the governor's road infrastructure development initiatives.
Mr. Chukwuma Azode, President of the Cooperative Motor Union in Abia State, emphatically stated that with Otti's achievements, no sensible politician should contest against him in the upcoming election.
"From what we are seeing, I don't think any sensible person should involve himself in anything concerning elections, because from what we are seeing, His Excellency is supposed to enjoy his eight years," Azode declared.
"So, for now, any opposition that is coming out is taking a big risk because we Abians are in support of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti for now, and no other person. And all the motor unions in Abia State are also endorsing His Excellency for 2027. That's part of our gathering here today," he added.
Azode further revealed that participants in the million-man march represented diverse political backgrounds, underscoring the broad-based support for the governor.
Transport Operators Benefit from Road Projects
Victor Azubuike, Chairman of Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), highlighted that Aba transporters have emerged as the primary beneficiaries of Otti's extensive road projects across the state.
The transport unions' endorsement comes amid growing satisfaction with the governor's infrastructure development agenda, which has reportedly transformed road networks across the state.
The union leaders effectively declared the governorship seat already secured for Otti until 2031, suggesting that the governor's performance has earned him an anticipated second term.
