The Nigerian Government has set an ambitious target to fully transition the Federal Civil Service to a paperless, digital system by December 31, 2025, as announced by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.

The announcement came during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, where Dr. Walson-Jack outlined the upcoming events for the 2025 African Public Service Day and Nigeria's Civil Service Week scheduled for June 20-28, 2025.

Digital Transformation Progress

"Even before I assumed office, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation had already gone paperless. We are now working to accelerate this transformation across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies," Dr. Walson-Jack stated.

She revealed that 11 ministries have already implemented the Enterprise Content Management Systems (ECMS), with the Federal Ministry of Health being the latest to launch the paperless initiative. The remaining ministries are at various stages of implementation, with partners engaged to help fund digital transitions in some ministries.

"The race to December 31, 2025, is on, and with hard work and God's grace, the Nigerian Civil Service will be fully paperless by December 31, 2025," she affirmed.

Civil Service Week and International Conference

The 2025 Civil Service Week will feature various activities including:

  • Commissioning of the remodelled Reception for the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation
  • Special Juma'at Prayer at the National Mosque
  • Thanksgiving Service at the Family Worship Centre, Wuye
  • Study Tour of the Federal Civil Service and Abuja by State's Heads of Civil Service
  • Welcome Cocktail for ICSC Speakers
  • Wellness Activities and Social Get-together for Civil Servants

A highlight of the week will be the inaugural International Civil Service Conference (ICSC) scheduled for June 25-26, 2025, in Abuja. The week will conclude with a Rewards and Recognition Awards Ceremony.

According to Dr. Walson-Jack, the ICSC aligns with Nigeria's commitment to the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), focusing on capability building, performance management, and digitalization.

The digital transformation initiative is part of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan for 2021–2025, which is scheduled to conclude by the end of this year.
