The Kebbi State Police Command has presented welfare cheques totaling N4.4 million to eight families of police officers who died while serving in active duty.
Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani made the presentation on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, during a ceremony held at the command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of administration, DCP Aminu Babale, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner, advised the beneficiaries to utilize the funds productively to support their families, particularly for educational needs.
"These funds are meant to provide immediate relief and support for the families of our fallen colleagues. We encourage you to invest wisely in your family's future, especially in the education of your children," DCP Babale stated.
He also offered prayers for the deceased officers and expressed hope that the financial support would bring some comfort to the grieving families.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Kamal Abubakar, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude to the police authorities for the timely intervention. He acknowledged that the financial support would provide significant relief to the families during their difficult time.
"This gesture shows that the sacrifice of our loved ones has not been forgotten. We are thankful to the Inspector General of Police and the entire police leadership for remembering us in our time of need," Abubakar said.
The disbursement was made under the IGP Family Welfare Scheme, a program specifically designed to provide support to families of officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.
This welfare initiative reflects the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to caring for the families of officers who make the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
Similar welfare presentations have been conducted in other states, including Niger State, where cheques worth N11.4 million were recently presented to families of deceased officers.
