The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has welcomed several high-profile defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Deputy Governor Chief Crother Seth, during an event held on Thursday.

Seth, who served as deputy governor throughout Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's first term (2019-2023), officially joined the APC alongside hundreds of other defectors. His departure from the PDP came after he lost the opportunity to return as deputy governor when Fintiri chose Professor Kaletapwa Farauta as his running mate for the 2023 governorship election.

Political analysts believe Fintiri's decision to select a female running mate was strategic, as he faced strong competition from APC's female candidate, Senator Aishatu Ahmed (Binani), during the election.

Other Notable Defectors

The defection ceremony also saw other prominent figures joining the APC, including:

  • Abdulrahman Haske, a businessman and philanthropist
  • Ambrose Mamman, former Chief Judge of Adamawa State
  • Gibson Nathaniel, former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly

Mustapha Salihu, APC National Vice Chairman (North East), expressed pride in welcoming the new members during the event.

Triple Celebration for APC

The defection ceremony was part of a triple celebration for the APC in Adamawa State on Thursday, which also included:

1. The official opening of the party's new state secretariat

2. A solidarity rally in support of President Bola Tinubu

During the rally, APC leaders urged Nigerians to remain patient with President Tinubu's economic reforms, assuring that the current hardships would eventually yield positive results for the country.

The defections represent a significant political shift in Adamawa State, potentially strengthening the APC's position ahead of future elections in the state.
