Former Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking another significant political realignment ahead of future elections.

Bindow, who governed Adamawa State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) from 2015 to 2019, formalized his membership with the ADC on Monday by registering at his ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, where he received his party membership card.

The former governor's political career includes serving as senator for Adamawa North Zone between 2011 and 2015 before his gubernatorial tenure. His defection represents a continuing trend of high-profile politicians from Adamawa State moving to the ADC.

Bindow becomes the third major political figure from Adamawa to join the party, following former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Senator Aishatu Binani, who contested the 2023 Adamawa governorship election under the APC.

Political analysts view these defections as potentially reshaping the political landscape in Adamawa State and strengthening the ADC as a formidable opposition platform ahead of future elections.

The ADC has recently positioned itself as a coalition party, with Atiku reportedly stating that the party aims to take power from the current administration in 2027, claiming other parties are "jittery" about its growing influence.

This development comes amid reports of political realignments across Nigeria as parties begin early preparations for the next electoral cycle.
