The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu's performance in office has effectively neutralized the opposition coalition forming against him ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) and other roads in the Katampe district of Abuja on Wednesday, Wike dismissed the coalition's chances of defeating Tinubu in 2027.
"Your good work has killed the coalition. I was thinking that truly there will be coalition, but when they see what is happening every day, I told my people make sure that every national television must hook in," Wike stated, addressing President Tinubu.
Opposition Leaders Under Fire
The opposition coalition reportedly includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
According to Wike, the coalition members are forced to witness the president's achievements across various media platforms. "So if they turn to DBN, TVC they are watching Mr. President. If they go to Channel, NTA, even the ones that don't watch Arise, it's Mr. President. So they have no choice, they must watch it for 17 days, there is nothing they can do," he said.
The FCT Minister added: "Abuja people say I should tell you that they are happy, please help us so that these people who are not happy their BP will keep going up. The coalition is bound to fail and it has failed."
El-Rufai's Earlier Claims
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai had previously stated that the opposition coalition's primary objective was to remove President Tinubu from power in the 2027 general elections. However, Wike's comments suggest that the administration believes such efforts will be unsuccessful due to the president's performance.
This development comes amid ongoing infrastructure projects and policy implementations by the Tinubu administration, which supporters argue are strengthening the president's position ahead of future electoral contests.
The political landscape continues to evolve as both the ruling party and opposition groups position themselves for the next electoral cycle, with infrastructure development and governance becoming key battlegrounds for public support.
