PDP chieftain Dele Momodu has criticized President Bola Tinubu for referring to Nigerians who question FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's leadership as "busybodies," suggesting that the country now appears to have "two presidents."
On Tuesday, President Tinubu urged Minister Wike not to be distracted by "busybodies and naysayers" but to focus on his mandate to transform the nation's capital. This comment has sparked controversy among political observers.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday, Momodu expressed concern over the President's remarks, suggesting that Wike appears to wield unusual influence in the current administration.
"The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has held Lagos since 1999 to date, has not been as audacious as Wike," Momodu stated. "In fact, right now, it's looking like we have two Presidents in Nigeria."
The PDP chieftain further questioned the President's choice of words when addressing citizens who criticize his administration's decisions. "Yesterday, I listened to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Commander-in-Chief, calling fellow Nigerians busybodies. You are calling Nigerians busybodies all because of Wike," he added.
This exchange highlights growing tensions within Nigeria's political landscape regarding the relationship between President Tinubu and Minister Wike, who was formerly a prominent figure in the opposition PDP before his appointment to the federal cabinet.
BenriNews reports that Wike's leadership style as FCT Minister has drawn both praise and criticism since his appointment, with some questioning the extent of his authority and influence within the administration.
