Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has addressed the controversy surrounding her recent announcement of separation from her husband, Oluseyi, explaining that she wanted to control her own narrative before others could speculate about her marriage.
The actress had sparked widespread reactions last week when she revealed the separation in a post meant to celebrate her husband's birthday. The timing of her announcement, which came after four years of marriage, drew criticism from many social media users who accused her of deliberately trying to subject her husband to public ridicule.
Taking Control of Her Narrative
Speaking amid the backlash during the presentation of a house to actress Jumoke George, Biola explained her decision: "Please, I'm a human too. The other one I said about my marriage was because I don't want people to say my story for me, that was why I came out to say it. And that's my style."
She further clarified that she had already noticed people questioning why she wasn't posting her husband on social media, which prompted her to make the announcement before rumors could spread. "So that people would not be saying something different or saying things that would make me sad. But I didn't know that you people would still use it against me," she added.
Husband Was Aware of the Announcement
Contrary to public perception that she blindsided her husband, Biola revealed that Oluseyi was fully aware of her intention to make the announcement. "I have already told my husband before I posted. So he was aware that I would post it so that other people won't be the one to tell the story on social media. But I know that God will reward everybody accordingly," she stated.
BenriNews recalls that in 2023, Biola, known for her openness about personal matters, had revealed that she and Oluseyi welcomed their son through a surrogate mother.
The actress's latest revelation highlights the challenges celebrities face in managing their personal lives in the public eye, especially when dealing with sensitive matters like marriage separation.
