Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, stating that it is failing Nigerians and expressing his readiness to join a coalition that would challenge the president in the 2027 elections.

In a recent interview with BBC, the former Rivers State governor accused Tinubu of worsening the economic hardship in Nigeria, emphasizing that he would continue to speak truth to power despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

"If the government is failing the country, you don't just go along because you're in the same party. You know that's not right," Amaechi stated during the interview.

The former minister highlighted the severe economic situation affecting Nigerians, saying, "People are dying. People are starving. I myself am feeling the effects of hunger."

Coalition Building Against Tinubu

Amaechi is widely believed to be part of an emerging opposition coalition aimed at unseating Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This speculation gained momentum when prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai attended Amaechi's recent 60th birthday celebration in Abuja.

During the celebration, Amaechi, Atiku, and El-Rufai collectively accused the Tinubu administration of weaponizing poverty in Nigeria, signaling a united front against the current government.

While maintaining his loyalty to the APC, Amaechi insisted that party membership does not equate to blind support for government policies that he believes are harmful to Nigerians.

The former minister's statements come at a time when Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, including high inflation, currency devaluation, and increasing cost of living that has sparked protests across the country.
