Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesman to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has praised President Bola Tinubu's mental acuity following a meeting at the president's Lagos residence on Monday.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV's Politics Tonight, Sowunmi described the president as mentally sharp despite physical frailty. "First of all, his brain is very alert. He's fit, never mind that he is frail," Sowunmi stated.

Long-standing Relationship

Sowunmi revealed he has known President Tinubu since 1994, highlighting a deep relationship spanning nearly three decades. The purpose of his visit, according to him, was to discuss and understand why opposition parties blame Tinubu's government for their internal crises.

"The kind of questions I asked him – you know when you're asking someone questions and the person is answering without looking at a book – and he is answering it the way he sees it and you're agreeing," Sowunmi explained, impressed by the president's ability to respond intelligently without reference materials.

Political Implications

The meeting has raised eyebrows in political circles, given Sowunmi's position as a longstanding member of the opposition PDP and his previous role as spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, who contested against Tinubu in the last presidential election.

This development comes amid ongoing discussions about the president's health and capacity to lead, which have been subjects of speculation in some quarters since he assumed office.
