The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not collapse despite its ongoing internal crisis.

Wike made this declaration on Monday evening while hosting critical stakeholders of the party under the umbrella of 'Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP' in Abuja.

The high-profile meeting was attended by several former governors including Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia. Other notable attendees included PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, as well as serving and former federal and state lawmakers.

G5 Governors' Role in Nigeria's Stability

During his address, Wike emphasized the crucial role played by the G5 Governors in maintaining Nigeria's political stability. "Today, this country is stabilized because of the activities of the G5 Governors. You may like us, you may hate us. The truth of the matter is if G5 did not take the decision we took, this country would have been in crisis," he stated.

The FCT Minister further explained that the concerned stakeholders present at the meeting were individuals who have consistently demonstrated commitment to the party's survival beyond mere rhetoric. "All of you here are those who are committed to the survival of our party not just on TV talking or on the newspapers talking but committed to the party at the various levels," Wike noted.

Call for Constitutional Respect

Wike called on the PDP leadership to respect both the party's constitution and that of the country. He suggested that the party's current challenges could have been avoided if earlier warnings had been heeded.

"If the party had listened to what we said, we won't have been where we are today and we have continued to sound it to the party, let the constitution of the party and of the country be respected," he emphasized.

The minister cautioned against what he described as impunity within the opposition party, stressing that "no opposition party acts with impunity." He advocated for reconciliation and unity, saying, "Ours is to continue to placate people and bring them together, not to say that they should go to hell."

In his concluding remarks, Wike urged party members to set aside personal interests for the collective good of the PDP. "Let us not allow greed, let us not allow ego to kill our party," he advised.

The meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the internal conflicts that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections.
