Popular media personality, Daddy Freeze, has revealed that he lost 100% of his investments after he began criticizing Nigerian pastors, including lucrative Master of Ceremonies (MC) jobs that previously earned him millions of naira.
Speaking during an interview on the Leadership podcast with Stephen Akintayo, Daddy Freeze detailed the significant financial impact his stance against religious leaders had on his career.
Financial Consequences of Religious Criticism
"When I came after the Nigerian pastors, at the initial stage, I lost 100% of my business. It got so bad for like two years," Daddy Freeze explained. "I used to MC and my rates were high, I used to charge N1.5m when the dollar was N150."
The media personality revealed that his high-profile status once allowed him to command fees of around $10,000 per event, typically booking such gigs once every two months. This translated to approximately $60,000 in annual revenue from just his MC work alone.
"Since 2019 till now I haven't got an MC job," he stated, highlighting the lasting impact of his controversial stance.
Industry Blacklisting
Daddy Freeze also shared a particularly telling incident that demonstrated how his criticism of pastors affected his bookings. He recounted a situation where he had been paid upfront for an MC job, but after promotional materials went public, there was significant backlash.
"I had one gig, but after they paid upfront and the flier went viral, people said they were not going to attend the event. And the guy had to call and inform me, and when I told him that we had already agreed, he said if it is about the upfront payment, you can keep it," he revealed.
Despite the financial setbacks, Daddy Freeze has continued his commentary on religious practices in Nigeria, becoming known for his critical stance on certain church doctrines and practices.
