Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he is not bound to any individual and is not opposed to President Bola Tinubu, despite his previous role in Atiku's 2023 presidential campaign.
Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today programme on Monday, Sowunmi addressed concerns about his recent visit to President Tinubu, emphasizing that the meeting should not be interpreted as betrayal of his affiliation with the former Vice President.
"I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions. I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu. I own my mouth, I own my words, and I own my arguments," Sowunmi stated during the interview.
Tinubu's Intellectual Superiority
In a surprising assessment, Sowunmi praised President Tinubu's intellectual capabilities, suggesting that the president possesses superior strategic thinking compared to opposition figures.
"Do you know the difference between Bola and them? He doesn't have one approach to dealing with everybody. By miles, he (Tinubu) is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them," Sowunmi remarked.
This development follows a pattern of former Atiku associates establishing relationships with the Tinubu administration. BenriNews reports that in November 2024, Daniel Bwala, another former spokesman for Atiku and once a vocal critic of Tinubu, was appointed Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication after meeting with the president.
Sowunmi's comments have sparked discussions about political loyalty and the fluid nature of Nigerian political alliances as the country moves further into President Tinubu's administration.
