Unknown armed men have launched a devastating attack on Gyenbwas community in Langai district, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, burning down at least 96 houses and killing three people.

According to reports, the attackers boldly looted food, mattresses, cattle, and other valuables worth millions of Naira during the raid that has left the community in shock.

Death Toll Rises to Three

The traditional ruler and Madugun Langai, Alhaji Yakubu Umar, confirmed that the death toll has risen to three after another body was recovered on Tuesday, following the two persons killed during Monday's attack.

"We have never experienced such atrocities. The perpetrators burned working equipment, clothes, foodstuffs, and other items. They also looted goods worth millions of Naira. We live peacefully with everyone and that is why we are very surprised," Umar lamented.

Ethnic Tensions Rise

The community has accused the Berom ethnic group of launching the attack, an allegation the Berom have denied. This accusation threatens to escalate ethnic tensions in a region already plagued by communal conflicts.

The traditional leader has called for the intervention of the Mangu Local Government Area authorities and the Plateau State government to investigate the attack thoroughly and provide aid to the victims who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

This attack comes amid growing concerns about security challenges in various parts of Plateau State, which has witnessed recurring violence between farming communities and herders over the years.

As of the time of this report, security agencies have yet to make any official statement regarding the incident or announce any arrests in connection with the attack.
