Cross River State PDP Chairman, Venatius Ikem, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately creating artificial crisis within the People's Democratic Party due to PDP's growing popularity.

In an exclusive interview with BenriNews, Ikem stated that the PDP is experiencing a national resurgence that has made the ruling party anxious.

"Clearly there is a national resurgence of popularity of our party that is making the ruling party restless enough to devote so much energy and resources to simulate a crisis in our party which doesn't actually exist in reality," Ikem said.

He further emphasized that "Someone somewhere is scared of leaving our platform to survive because of the potential it holds to retake power."

PDP Structures Remain Intact Despite Defections

The opposition party chairman boasted that despite a few defections, the PDP structures remain solid. When questioned about the party's prospects for the upcoming governorship election, Ikem expressed confidence in the party's ability to field strong candidates.

"There remains an enormous amount of goodwill in the party to encourage any aspirants deserving of an election to explore," he stated, suggesting that the party has sufficient resources and support to back worthy candidates.

The chairman's comments come amid reports of internal conflicts within the PDP, which he dismisses as fabrications orchestrated by political opponents seeking to weaken the party's resurgence.

Political analysts note that these developments highlight the intensifying political climate as parties begin positioning themselves for future electoral contests.
