Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he played through an injury during Portugal's UEFA Nations League final victory against Spain on Sunday.

The 40-year-old forward disclosed that he had been dealing with discomfort for some time and felt it during the pre-match warm-up. Despite this, Ronaldo insisted on playing in the crucial final, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the national team.

"I had already felt it [injury] in the warm-up, it had been coming for some time," Ronaldo told reporters after the match. "But, for the national team, if I had to break a leg, I'd leave. It is a title, I had to play and I gave my best, I went as far as I could. I helped with a goal."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner emphasized his dedication to representing Portugal, adding, "I had an injury, but I forced it, because for the national team you've to push."

Decisive Contribution Despite Injury

Ronaldo made a significant impact in the final, scoring Portugal's second goal during the 2-2 draw in Munich. The match eventually went to penalties after 120 minutes at the Allianz Arena, with Portugal emerging victorious with a 5-3 shootout win.

This victory marks another international achievement for Ronaldo, who continues to demonstrate his value to the national team despite his advancing years in the sport.

The triumph over Spain adds another trophy to Portugal's cabinet following their Euro 2016 success and the inaugural Nations League title they won in 2019.

Ronaldo's willingness to play through pain highlights his legendary commitment to Portugal, further cementing his status as one of the sport's greatest competitors.
