Police operatives in Adamawa State have successfully thwarted a kidnapping plot and arrested a 32-year-old suspect who was caught while attempting to collect ransom money at a designated drop point.
According to information released by the Adamawa State Police Command on Monday, the operation followed a report received on June 7, 2025, from Lamido Bello of Ungwan Faransa in Gombi Local Government Area. Bello reported that his elder brother, Alhaji Dahiru of Kamsu village, had received threatening calls from an unknown person demanding ₦1,000,000 to avoid being kidnapped.
"In response, the Command swiftly initiated operation in collaboration with professional hunters," the police statement explained. The joint security team apprehended the suspect, identified as Manu Ahmadu, at a remote location in Kamsu village, Hong Local Government Area, while he was attempting to retrieve the package he had demanded.
Suspect Injured During Arrest
Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, who signed the press release, revealed that during the arrest operation, the suspect attempted to disarm one of the local security agents. This prompted a defensive response resulting in injury to the suspect after security personnel applied what was described as "minimum force."
"He was immediately taken to a medical facility and he is currently responding to treatment," the police stated, adding that the suspect would face court charges after the completion of investigations.
This arrest highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly common. The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between police and local security groups in preventing such crimes.
The Adamawa State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities promptly to help combat criminal elements in the state.
