Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has pointed accusing fingers at President Bola Tinubu's administration for the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television's Morning Show on Monday, Obi categorically stated that the current government is behind the party's internal conflicts.

"The problem we have in Labour Party is problem instigated and sustained by the government of today," Obi declared during the interview.

Propaganda and Manufactured Crisis

Obi expressed frustration over what he described as a climate of propaganda and falsehood in Nigeria's political landscape. "This is what you get always in Nigeria, because we now live in a country of propaganda and lies – and they manufacture it," he stated.

The former presidential candidate referenced incidents of disrespect within party ranks, noting, "I don't need to tell you when you have a party chairman who calls a state governor a dwarf and dwarf thinking. Forget about me, so it's not weak."

He further lamented that speaking truth in the current political environment often results in name-calling, adding, "They are trying to put problems everywhere, they want to even put problems in families."

Wider Political Context

The Labour Party has been experiencing significant internal turmoil in recent months, with reports of defections to other parties. This comes as the political landscape begins to shift toward preparations for future elections.

Obi's accusations against the Tinubu administration come at a time when several other opposition figures have raised concerns about the government's approach to political opposition.

The Labour Party emerged as a significant third force in Nigerian politics during the 2023 elections, with Obi garnering substantial support, particularly among young voters and urban populations.

As of publication time, there has been no official response from the presidency regarding Obi's allegations.
