A coalition of youth support networks under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Vanguard for Renewed Hope has called on the PDP leadership to stop vilifying the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, warning that such actions could further alienate young people from the party.

The coalition made this statement on Monday following Wike's public declaration to lead President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaigns in Rivers State, despite remaining a card-carrying member of the PDP.

In a statement signed by the National President, Hon. Charles Onoja, the group urged the PDP to listen to Wike, stating that he "has his finger on the pulse of the people, especially young Nigerians."

Youth Support for Wike's Position

"Rather than vilify Wike, the PDP should listen to him. His decision to back Tinubu is in line with the aspiration of millions who want Nigeria to rise above the same old politics," Onoja stated.

The coalition emphasized that their support for Tinubu is not about switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but about "crossing over to the truth." They cited what they described as Tinubu's impressive performance in infrastructure, education, job creation, and aviation sector reforms over the past two years.

"We want to be on the side of truth, performance, and stability. Wike has shown us that it is possible to stay loyal to your values and still support a government that works. Tinubu has earned our respect. Come 2027, we will speak with our PVCs," Onoja added.

Nationwide Mobilization Efforts

According to the statement, the coalition has already begun grassroots mobilization across the six geopolitical zones to ensure massive support for Tinubu in the next election. Their structures are reportedly active in all 774 local government areas.

"We are organizing town halls, campus engagements, digital campaigns, community meetings, church and mosque-to-mosque sensitization efforts. We want to make a clear statement that Nigeria's youth are not blind to results. We support Tinubu because he delivers," Onoja declared.

The coalition noted that the country is experiencing a political rebirth where competence and patriotism should take precedence over partisanship, with Wike's decision demonstrating that Nigeria's unity and future development now matter more than party affiliations.

This development comes amid growing tensions within the PDP, as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions following its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
