The Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, has expressed strong confidence that his party will defeat the incumbent Governor Mallam Umar Namadi Danmodi in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.

Danjani made this bold declaration through his official Facebook account on Sunday, stating that the PDP is determined to make political history in Jigawa State.

"By the will of Allah, we are on our way to making history in Jigawa in 2027. We will defeat Governor Danmodi in the upcoming election, God willing," he declared.

Historical Precedents Cited

To support his confidence, the PDP Deputy Chairman drew parallels with similar political upsets that have occurred across Nigeria in recent years. He specifically mentioned how Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP defeated then-incumbent Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the APC in Adamawa State in 2019.

Danjani also referenced Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory over APC's Gboyega Oyetola in Osun State, despite the APC controlling the federal government at the time.

"This is just like when Shekarau of ANPP defeated Kwankwaso of PDP in 2003, even though the PDP controlled the presidency," Danjani noted, emphasizing that federal influence has historically failed to override the will of local electorates.

Other Notable Political Upsets

The PDP leader further strengthened his argument by pointing to other significant electoral upsets, including Bala Mohammed's victory over M.A. Abubakar in Bauchi and Seyi Makinde's win in Oyo State.

"Also, in 2023, Abba Gida Gida of the NNPP defeated the APC in Kano, despite the party being in power at the federal level," he added, suggesting that similar circumstances could favor the PDP in Jigawa come 2027.

Danjani concluded his statement with a prayer, asking Allah to grant the party success in its political endeavors.

The 2027 governorship race in Jigawa is still years away, but this early declaration signals the PDP's intention to mount a serious challenge against the incumbent administration.
