The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized scores of terrorists and destroyed their key logistics infrastructure during an air interdiction mission in Borno State, military officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the operation targeted a major terrorist enclave in Bukar Meram, located on the southern flank of the Lake Chad region.
Strategic Strike Against Terrorist Infrastructure
The operation, conducted on June 9, 2025, under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), followed credible intelligence reports about terrorist activities in the area. The airstrikes successfully destroyed supply vehicles, weapons storage sites, and makeshift shelters used by the terrorists.
"Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that the strike effectively disrupted imminent threats posed to the communities of Marte and Monguno, reinforcing NAF's proactive posture in safeguarding civilian populations and critical territories," Ejodame stated.
The targeted location was reportedly being used as both an operational base and a training ground for terrorist activities in the region.
Continued Counter-Terrorism Efforts
This operation represents part of the Nigerian military's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the Northeast region, particularly in areas surrounding Lake Chad where terrorist groups have established hideouts.
"The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in its mandate to protect the sovereignty of the nation and ensure lasting peace and security across the Northeast and beyond," the NAF spokesman emphasized.
Military analysts note that Marte and Monguno have been strategic targets for terrorist groups due to their proximity to Lake Chad and their position as gateway communities to other parts of Borno State.
The successful operation comes as part of intensified efforts by Nigerian security forces to clear remaining terrorist strongholds in the Northeast, where insurgency has persisted for over a decade.
